Heat Shrink Sleeve Sizing

for Cable Identification

Please feel free to contact our sales team for assistance with sizing. The calculations made as follows:
Heat shrink sleeving is extruded at a minimum or FULLY SHRUNK size, measured by the inner diameter of the sleeving, and then EXPANDED to the supplied (ordering) size. The smallest expanded (supplied or ordering) size is 1.2mm (shrinks to 0.6mm), the largest expanded (supplied or ordering) size is 101.6mm (shrinks to 50.8mm) and there are a range of sizes in between.
Unless the full electrical and/or mechanical properties of the heat shrink are required, a size which is larger in diameter than necessary, will only add cost, shrinking time and energy.
For a uniformly sized product such as a cable, wire, hose etc. without a connector fitted, select the smallest expanded (supplied or ordering) size which will slide on as this will require the least shrinking time.
For a product which is not uniform, such as a cable with a connector fitted, select the smallest expanded (supplied or ordering) size which will slide over the largest section (the connector). NB. Ensure that the shrink ratio (2:1, 3:1, 4:1) is enough to reduce the heat shrink down to a snug fit on your cable.
Identimark can supply printed heat shrink cable identification markers at any length to suit your requirements (or mark repeatedly along the length of a reel). Please note: there is also a slight longitudinal reduction of around 5-10% when fully shrunk.
